.In 1992 Fraserburgh celebrated its 400th Birthday.
A year of celebration took place and is recorded in this display by the Fraserburgh 400 committee.
The Fraserburgh 400 committee was formed from local townsfolk who organised many events
during the year, New Year celebrations in the town square, historical pageants and a birthday party,
which culminated in a special visit to the town by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
As part of the display of the history of the town the Queen viewed the commemorative tapestry
depicting the unique and rich history and culture of our community.
The tapestry now hangs in the Heritage Centre Gift Shop and Admission area. Click here to see a larger image
This wall hanging, consisting of 90 panels in a wide variety of needlework techniques,
was made to commemorate the town’s quater-centenary in 1992.
The youngest participant was only 8 years old and the oldest was over 80.
The one hour long video of the historical pageant through the town in 1992
is showing continuously as part of the Fraserburgh 400 display
in the Fraser Library.
